In honor of today, I'd like to reiterate what our priest at our church talked about during his homily. Forgiveness. The memories of 9/11 cannot be forgotten, and ten years later, some will still not understand what happened that day. How could it have happened? May the one thing we'll understand, and perhaps the most difficult to even comprehend and mentally/emotionally do for many, is to Forgive. I'm not asking to forget. The memories of those who we lost, those who fought for others to survive, and even those who performed such heinous crimes, the scars are still very fresh. But life must go on, so that our hearts can. In order to honor those whose lives were destroyed that day-both living and those who've gone on-if we can forgive each other, then we've honored their memories as best we can by becoming the best human beings we can be. Let us demonstrate that love can conquer hate. Forgiveness is not easy. It's the most difficult thing to do. But by forgiving, we've allowed some part of ourselves to heal and grow. On this day, however you choose to commemorate it, let love and forgiveness be some part of it.
